Aruba Steve’s Island Grill is located in the historic district of Warren, Rhode Island. Although located in the beautiful historic area, Aruba Steve’s brings a fresh modern twist to the region. The owner, Steve, a former Caribbean resident created this restaurant with an authentic island theme that makes you feel like you’ve just walked into your Caribbean vacation. This past weekend I experienced a little paradise at Aruba Steve’s Island Grill.
First off, the atmosphere is something words cannot begin to describe. The second you see the round party lights strung on the outdoor patio of the restaurant, you already begin to feel like you’re on a vacation. The lounge seats as well as wood tables give you the option to be comfortable and sip on a signature drink, or indulge on some island grub. The indoor seating is just as accommodating for formal island dining.
Aruba Steve’s is known for their local seafood that is cooked to perfection. The Fish Tacos are to die for made with grilled mahi mahi, fresh Pico de gallo, island slaw and house aioli. The perfect combination of sweet and spicy that will no doubt fill you up. The restuaunt also offers nightly specials. One of the favorites being a Sirloin steak with a smoked grit croquette and crispy onion strings. This large portion only costs $22. But on Friday night, I was looking for a something a little lighter.
On my adventure to Aruba this weekend, my roommate Matt and I were looking for some good island food with a little live music. Just coming off of dinner and wanting some drinks and appetizers, we made our way upstairs to the bar and event room. Our friends local band serenaded us while we sipped on some fresh cocktails. My roommate being of legal age, ordered their signature lemonade fish bowl drink. Made with ingredients such as Smirnoff, cranberry juice and sprite.
“This drink is so refreshing and delicious at the same time. The only thing I need is a sunburn and sand between my toes.” Matt shared. I truly believe he enjoyed it considering he order two more after. Safe to say I was driving home that night. But I wanted to get the island feel on my taste buds too. I asked the friendly waitress for the same drink, just virgin, and let me tell you it was quite delicious. It was served to me in a cute mason jar, that anyone would enjoy drinking out of.
After a couple of hours of really enjoying the atmosphere, we found our selves a little hungry. There was a dinner menu as well as a “Bar Bites Menu” for us to choose from. We went straight to the bar menu in hopes of getting a little seafood to add a little more adventure to our one night vacation. We both lit up when spotting the Calamari pizza. Made with homemade marina, fried local calamari, chorizo, banana peppers and delicious fresh mozzarella cheese. This thin crusted crunchy delectable pizza exceeded our expectations. We ate every bit of the pizza and wanted more after.
After a couple more drinks, we saw the waitress give a table a large order of cheese fries. It looked so good, we had to order it. These cheese fries go above and beyond the original cheese fry. Hand cut fries, coated with melted shredded cheese with layers of bacon and jalapenos. Our taste buds were jumping with joy.
When we got the check we were extremely surprised at how reasonable our total was. For being broke college students, we try to get the best food at the lowest price possible. This is one of those places we will be dining at for the rest of our college careers. Post graduation, we will for sure be stopping in Rhode Island for a little taste of paradise.
