Extend Your Outdoor Living Space With A Gazebo

We all know that patios and porches are great ways to extend our outdoor living space, but have you considered a gazebo?

A gazebo is a perfect place for an outdoor gathering with friends and family. In a gazebo, you can have your quiet me-time or invite friends over and enjoy a warm afternoon together. They are excellent for providing coverage over dining areas, hot tubs, and even outdoor grills.

It probably comes as no surprise that gazebos have been around for centuries. They can be as fancy or as simple as you like. There are many different types of gazebos as well as, details that can make them unique to fit your style. They can be made of wood, metal, plastic, or other materials, and it’s really a matter of personal preference and budget which you choose. You’ll also want to consider the size and shape of the model you like. There are square, rectangular, round and even 6- and 8-sided models.

The most popular shape is a six-sided or eight-sided formation.  It can have a simple roof supported by posts, or can incorporate a low wall, two or three feet high which makes it possible to add screens, doors, and windows.  Gazebos can also be temporary structures which set up and collapse in just minutes and are easily portable, and those that are hardscaped into your yard for a more permanent solution.

Although gazebos can come in very large sizes–large enough for a bandstand–most gazebos you see seat four to six people and will be an intimate and comfortable outdoor entertaining area.

Gazebos tend to be placed away from your home and this will provide you with a different view of your backyard or garden than you get from your main patio area. So, the best spot to place your new gazebo will depend entirely on the size and shape of your backyard. Survey your backyard from different angles and ask yourself the following questions: Do you want a secluded niche or a view of the entire yard? What kind of sun exposure do you want? Is the proposed site level and does it have good drainage? Are there any zoning laws that would impact your structure?

However you like to enjoy the outdoors, you can find the perfect gazebo design for you and your family. You may want a gazebo large enough to have a dining table, or maybe a smaller one with benches for reading.
