Seekonk is the western most community in the Southcoast region bordering Rhode Island and only minutes from the city of Providence.
Seekonk has been a bedroom community of Providence for many years. At one time Seekonk was mostly agricultural, supplying much of the region with water resources and food supplies. Very few farms still exist in Seekonk as developers have turned the farms into housing divisions. Seekonk today is largely a suburban home community for people who work in the Rhode Island and Boston areas. It is now well known for its retail areas along Route 6, which includes a movie multiplex, many national chain stores and a host of restaurants.
Seekonk borders two interstate highways on opposite ends of town. In the south, Interstate 195 runs east-west from Providence to Cape Cod and in the north Interstate 95 runs north-south from Providence to Boston. Its close proximity to Providence makes is easy to enjoy city life while living a state away in a rural setting. Easy access to T. F. Green airport in RI for air travel and Amtrak trains to Boston is just a short drive away in Attleboro, MA.
